The public is so excited about the Food for Fines program that we are starting early if they come in with the canned goods!   Nancy  helped a gentelman who brought in 8 cans of food for $3 in late fines  -  the power of community spirit… it does a body good!!  There are no limits to the fine amount (if they have $200 in fines – take the canned goods!)  The food will be given to West Bay Community Action at the end of the month.

There are guidelines at the Circulation desk indicating that the program only applies to late fines and does not apply to billed/damaged/missing items or accounts that are in Collections.  Please direct patrons with Collections accounts to me and I’ll see what we can do.

I hope you enjoyed our Wed. meeting and Ruth’s enthusiastic presentation on some changes around the library world.

So what’s next? We are asking each department to tell us what you heard at the Wed. meeting that our patrons might like and also your concerns. The committee wants to hear from you before we move to the next step in planning.

Plus …We received good news on Thursday from the Champlin Foundation that we received a grant to redo the Circulation area with more self-checks, face out shelving and new carpeting. This was a grant we applied for last May. Great timing! Now we can actually do some of the things we have been talking about.

We’ll keep you updated as we work out a project schedule and the details for the circulation redo.

The flyers for the Christmas Party have been distributed! We have a rollicking time planned with a fine meal at the Greenwood Inn, the Yankee Swap and the Ugly Christmas Sweater Competition. You don’t want to miss it! Feel free to bring spouses and significant others.

The party starts at 6 on Sunday, December 13. Christmas Sweaters are encouraged, but not required. Please turn in your form and payment to one of the current officers of Sunshine (Niles, Mary Anne, Paula, Nancy, Nicole and Sally Butler) by December 1st.

We’ll have coffee and refreshments at 9 and start the presentation by Ruth shortly after. We should be finished close to 11:30 so that we can get to lunch and be back to open by 1 pm.

I love everything about the library except the noise. (We’re looking at signage for quiet study room so it is more visible)

I can see that Halloween is a big deal in Warwick. Lots of decorations, parties and every yard has a scary face or skeleton.

So can we celebrate Halloween at the Library? Sure, as long as the face we present to the public is welcoming and friendly and not witchy.
So on Friday or Saturday, if you would like to wear your
costume or pumpkin earrings or purple fright hair,
that will be fun and fine with me.

Beginning Monday, patrons will be able to reserve museum passes through a new product we have purchased through eventkeeper.  The link is under find it fast and on the museum pass information page.  Please feel free to help patrons use this new product.  It’s very easy.  It does ask for their library card number.  It does not authenticate with III, so if they don’t have a card handy, you can make up a 14 digit number.  They will continue to check the passes out in the Children’s Library and they will need their library card to check it out.

On the top of the page there is a link to our policies.  If you click on the name of the museum, you will go to their web page.  If you click on more details, it will tell you about the pass – how many people, how much of a discount, etc.

I have updated our website so it now defaults to an Encore search for the catalog.  On the children’s page and on the teen page, the only option available is encore.  On the home page, the box is an Encore search, but the classic catalog is listed underneath.  In the pull down menu in find it fast, the only option is Encore.  Of course once you do an Encore search, the classic catalog becomes an option.
