Encore

Try out the new catalog search on our website. This is the new “Encore” search. What do you think?
It still needs some tweeking from OSL, but will become the new way to search the catalog soon.

I miss your past format for newbooks, travel, gardening . (We can’t tell if they mean on the website or in the library)

Return bin at Norwood is too difficult to get to. (Looking into moving it.)

Can We Do Halloween?

LibraryHalloweenLargeI can see that Halloween is a big deal in Warwick. Lots of decorations, parties and every yard has a scary face or skeleton.

So can we celebrate Halloween at the Library? Sure, as long as the face we present to the public is welcoming and friendly and not witchy.
So on Friday or Saturday, if you would like to wear your
costume or pumpkin earrings or purple fright hair,
that will be fun and fine with me.
Pass the word.

Reserve your own museum pass

Beginning Monday, patrons will be able to reserve museum passes through a new product we have purchased through eventkeeper.  The link is under find it fast and on the museum pass information page.  Please feel free to help patrons use this new product.  It’s very easy.  It does ask for their library card number.  It does not authenticate with III, so if they don’t have a card handy, you can make up a 14 digit number.  They will continue to check the passes out in the Children’s Library and they will need their library card to check it out.

On the top of the page there is a link to our policies.  If you click on the name of the museum, you will go to their web page.  If you click on more details, it will tell you about the pass – how many people, how much of a discount, etc.

Thanks, Susan

Encore and our web site

I have updated our website so it now defaults to an Encore search for the catalog.  On the children’s page and on the teen page, the only option available is encore.  On the home page, the box is an Encore search, but the classic catalog is listed underneath.  In the pull down menu in find it fast, the only option is Encore.  Of course once you do an Encore search, the classic catalog becomes an option.

Library 101

The LibrarianInBlack has been blogging the 2009 Internet Librarian Conference. There are lots of interesting programs!  Check out the post called, Connecting Through “Lights, Cameras & Action.”  Take a few minutes to watch the goofy Library 101 video and see how many of the Library 101 skills you have.

Just Desserts

Thank you to everyone who helped with our dessert time last Thursday. The desserts were delicious and I’m sorry to disappoint everyone who thought we were voting on the desserts! What a competitive group! We will also advise next year’s Sunshine committee (those lucky devils) that several staff members would like to bring back the pumpkin carving contest. It seems really popular. Watch for news on the Christmas Party soon!

Apple vs. Pumpkin

Don’t forget Sunshine’s autumn gathering this Thursday, 2:45-3:15, in the Staff Room. If each department could bring either an apple or pumpkin dessert, we’ll have a very tasty break. See you there!
